Early Diagnosis & Intervention

Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial.  The sooner that treatment can be implemented the better the child’s chances of developing towards “normalcy /recovery” and being able to function independently in the outside world.  Without an early and proper diagnosis, a child with autism may not have the maximum opportunity to develop.

Current Research documents that early intensive behavioural intervention using the principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis offers children with autism the best opportunity at recovery.  Please note this treatment is referred to both as ABA or IBI, the acronym is used interchangeably to describe the same treatment.

ABA – Applied Behavioural Analysis
IBI - Intensive Behavioural Intervention

The Ontario Provincial Government now funds ABA/IBI to preschool age children ages 2 to 6 through The Ministry of Community and Social Services.  See under IBI Treatment.

There are various programs which are proving useful for SOME children.  Each child is unique and the program must be suited to their needs.

The best way to find out what works for your child, is to ask others what has worked for them, network with other families, do your research.  Our goal is to be able to offer you information on most of the available treatments right here - but please check out other sites, research, research and research some more.

THERE ARE NO KNOWN CURES FOR AUTISM OR ANY OF THE RELATED DISORDERS.
